Tackling Uneven Pigmentation on Your Skin

Uneven pigmentation and brown spots (age spots) are caused by excess melanin production in specific areas of the skin. It can cause the skin to appear older than it is, whereas even-toned, healthy skin can take years off your appearance.

The most common causes of hyperpigmentation include sun damage, hormonal pigmentation (melasma), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), often from acne but also any trauma to the skin causing inflammation resulting in darkening.

Each case of hyperpigmentation is unique and treatment/results will vary depending on the cause and severity of the condition. Home care and sun protection are an integral part of achieving the best results possible.

Symptoms

Common symptoms of hyperpigmentation include age spots (brown spots), melasma (hormonal brown patches), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (hyperpigmentation from acne or other forms of inflammation).
