Filler

Give me back my youthful skin! Well the truth is that as we age, our skin loses elasticity, volume and the amount of hyaluronic acid within gradually diminishes. As a result the skin becomes dryer, thinner and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are more apparent.
At the Ottawa Laser Clinic, our dermal fillers instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away deep lines and facial creases with no surgical procedure and minimal downtime.
Look your best at any age!
Dermal fillers, which are a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, can be used to address a variety of concerns related to this facial aging processing, including:

  • Adding volume and smoothing out the deep creases that run from the nose to the mouth (called nasolabial folds or laugh lines).
  • Plumping thin lips and smoothing out vertical lines around the edges of the lips.
  • Augmenting cheeks to enhance their shape, often restoring youthful fullness.
  • Filling out depressions (hollows) under the eye area.
  • Making indented scars from acne or chicken pox more even with surrounding skin.
  • Increasing volume to fill out gauntness in the lower cheek or temple area, which most often occurs due to fat pads shifting beneath the surface of skin

All of the Ottawa Laser Clinic’s injectable services are performed by our amazing Nurse Jenna and directed by our Consulting Nurse Practioner, Christine. Check out our “About Us” section to learn more about our injection specialists.

Chemical Peels FAQ

What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is a family of dermal fillers used by our injection specialist to refresh your appearance by smoothing away unwanted lines and bringing back the natural contours of your face. Using hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in your body, JUVÉDERM® combines with the water in your skin to gently restore lost fullness, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and subtly enhance lips, so you can look as young as you feel. The smooth formulation of JUVÉDERM® provides results that look and feel very natural.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a complex sugar naturally found in many tissues of the body such as skin and cartilage. It binds to water to create more fullness and elasticity in the skin to correct the appearance of wrinkles and facial folds

What makes JUVÉDERM® different from other facial fillers?

The JUVÉDERM® family of products features unique VYCROSS® technology. It is a revolutionary gel formula that gives your skin a smooth, natural-looking appearance that lasts.

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA®, JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® and JUVÉDERM® VOLIFT® are specially designed with VYCROSS®technology to smooth and enhance the face for an overall refreshed look, as treatments can be combined and customized to meet the specific needs of each individual.

In addition, JUVÉDERM® products contain lidocaine, a pain reliever that allows you to be more comfortable during and after treatment. Another main advantage of JUVÉDERM®versus semi-permanent fillers is that it is reversible. With JUVÉDERM® you can return to your pre-filler appearance if you don’t like the results

Can people with different skin tones be treated with JUVÉDERM®?

Yes. Studies with JUVÉDERM® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients with darker skin tones.

What should I expect before treatment?

Our Nurse Injection Specialist will have an in-depth consultation with you to understand your needs and what facial features you would like to enhance. She will explain all the options to make sure that your filler treatment meets your expectations and will discuss the benefits and risks of all options. At this point you will meet with our consulting nurse practioner to review the discussed treatment and have her provide recommendations.

What are the possible side effects?

Potential side effects associated with JUVÉDERM® products include temporary injection-site reactions such as redness, swelling, itching, pain, firmness, bumps, bruising, and discolouration. These reactions may occur immediately or may be delayed, and may last for up to a week. Injection in the lip may cause more swelling and bruising due to the unique physiology of this area. As with any injection, there is a risk of infection. This is not a complete list of side effects. If inflammatory reactions persist for more than one week, or if any other side effects develop, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for my treatment?

Disclose to our nurse if you are taking any medications that may prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), for advice on how to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

How long does the treatment usually take?

The injection process is quick and easy and can be completed in as little as 15-60 minutes, depending on the areas treated.

Is a treatment with JUVÉDERM® painful?

JUVÉDERM® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Because JUVÉDERM®also contains pain-reducing lidocaine, the whole injection process is a more comfortable experience.

Will there be swelling?

Following a filler injection, you may experience slight redness, swelling, or bruising at the injected area. These effects should not last for more than a week.

How long before I see results?

Results are instant. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment area but it typically takes approximately 2 weeks to see the finished lasting results. Most people need only one treatment to achieve an optimal outcome. Supplemental “touch-up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain the desired look.

How long does it last?

Average results last approximately 1 year but can very shorter or longer depending on the individual. It can also vary slightly based on the specific filler used.

What is the recovery time following a treatment?

Treatment requires minimal downtime and most people return to their normal routine immediately.

What should I do after treatment?

Our Nurse Injection Specialist will advise you on your aftercare. You may be advised to stop wearing makeup for up to 12 hours. You may also be told to avoid the sun, UV light, freezing temperatures, as well as saunas and steam rooms, for 2 weeks. Some people experience a little temporary tenderness, swelling or bruising around the injection sites. It is also recommended that you avoid additional treatments in the treated area for the next 7 days.
