Botox Cosmetic® is the only product of its kind that is directed at the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. It targets what are known as dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting. Botox Cosmetic®, an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein, works by relaxing the muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles, giving your face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance without sacrificing your natural expressions.
Treatments are quick & easy and some patients start to see results within 24 hours of treatment. With Botox, you can have a refreshed appearance that can last up to four months!
Will my face show emotions and expressions?
Botox is intended to enhance your look, not change it – you can still smile, frown and be expressive. The treatment only relaxes the muscle beneath the lines at the point of injection, so the other elements of your facial expression remain active. It also has no effect on the sensory nerves, so you will have normal feeling in the treated areas.
When will I see results and how long will they last?
You’ll begin to see results as soon as 24 hours after your treatment, and the lines may continue to fade up to two weeks afterwards. The effects can last up to four months.
What is the treatment like?
A Botox treatment is quick and simple, with no downtime. After meeting with our nurse/practioner to determine your desired outcome, the procedure itself takes only 10 to 15 minutes. A tiny amount of Botox is injected with a fine needle into the muscle being treated – this process is virtually painless.
What happens when the treatment stops working?
The effects of Botox will gradually disappear until the treated area regains movement. For the best results, continue treating the area every four months, or however often is suggested.
What are the side effects?
The side effects can be pain, tenderness and/or bruising at the site of injection, as well as generally feeling unwell, lasting up to six weeks after the treatment. There may also be weakness and rarely, changes in the way the heart beats, chest pain, skin rash and allergic reaction including shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing; or swelling of the face, lips or tongue or other parts of the body; rash, itching, or hives on the skin.
Seek immediate medical attention if swallowing, speech or respiratory problems arise. Tell your physician if you experience any difficulties in swallowing food while on Botox, as it could be related to the dosage.
While side effects are possible, they are however, rare. Our nurse injector will go over all safety information during your initial consultation.
How much does a treatment cost?
The price depends on the amount of Botox needed and the areas of the face being treated. Our nurse will determine the right amount of Botox required for you to achieve a refreshed look and provide you with a cost estimate during the free consultation.
Are there creams that are better than Botox?
No scientific evidence supports that creams work better than Botox. While creams work well on the surface of the skin, Botox works below the surface to relax the muscles that are the root cause where lines and wrinkles form.
Botox Cosmetic® has been researched and administered in the medical field for over twenty years.
Approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in April 2002.
